Best of 2013- Break-out Artists and Albums.

2013 seems like it was here and gone in a flash but it was not without its fair share of great hip-hop. Certain artists really made waves this year, but none more than artists like: Pusha-T, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z.

I would have to say that Pusha T had the most incredible year, and really surprised me with his lyric content growth from the time of the Clipse. His album had some really good jams, and a decent mix of rappers; especially, rappers that Pusha can hit way harder than (2- chainz and Big Sean).  Eminem made history with his album, Marshall Mathers LP2, making it his 6th straight #1 album! A lot of people hated on the album, but Eminem really cannot be touched lyrically. His lyrics were crazy and his delivery was relentless and on-point. To me, the only thing that really makes a legend in rap is longevity, and this year Jay-Z, Eminem and Talib Kweli showed us that time doesn’t change much for amazing artists. Talib came out with two albums within the same year: Prisoner of Conscious and Gravitas; both were really well-made and had a bunch of banging songs and features. Makes me happy that lyricism can still survive in a time where beats seem to rule the hip-hop enviroment. If you haven’t already, go check out some of these artists new stuff and support good music.
Tracks:
1.       Let me love you- Pusha-T ft. Kelly Rowland.
2.       Bad Guy- Eminem.
3.       Nostalgia- Pusha T ft. Kendrick Lamar.
4.       Push Thru- Talib Kweli ft. Curren$y and Kendrick Lamar.

5.       Holy Grail- Jay-Z ft. Justin Timberlake.

Hip-hop Today

Hello and welcome to hip-hop weekly; this week is a pretty interesting one for me. Not only have I enjoyed and looked forward to a lot of new music that’s coming out, but I also read an article that really pertains to some of my personal views and perception of the “game” and how it is today. It’s a frequently talked about thing, and if you’re a true fan you most likely have an opinion on the matter. I would love to hear those, but first allow me to state mine.

Hip-hop is a genre unlike any other; the genre has roots in so many other genres’, so its sound is virtually infinite with possibilities. However, sometimes music becomes a little to manufactured and mathematical. Much rather; music is an extension of the soul in my humble opinion and I love to hear raw, unique and innovative flows and lyrics. When a song does well, its pretty apparent that artists will try and capture the same kind of sound to produce the same kind of results and a lot of times the songs sound the same. This is completely because music is an industry, they have to work with what does well and ride trends but I think it is important to push the envelope with this genre and support artists that do just that. I don’t think hip-hop is any real trouble, as long as the right artists get the proper support to produce new and more innovative music. Big up’s to trend setters, in that spirit, here are my 3 songs of the week.

1.       The motion- Drake
2.       Nothin’ but a party- Zapp and Roger
3.       Stronger- Kanye West

Each post I put up will have an interesting hip-hop related news story that I will carefully regulate, as to bring loyal hip-hop fans the best stories of the genre(s) you vibe to. Along with fresh, funny and interesting hip-hop news; I will also be listing 3 songs each post that will eventually, if it all goes accordingly, make a pretty tight playlist. The songs will be a mix of old school/ classic/ funk/ new school hip-hop and the latest hip-hop songs released.

Soulja boy accused of hit n run and the police impound his Bentley!? When I saw this story two things came to mind. Where the hell has Soulja Boy been? And I just think it’s hilarious because how the hell can he afford to get it back? I won’t really give this story justice, so check out the full story from the link I provided and get every last detail. Best of luck Soulja Boy, even though I must admit I am pleased I will never hear another song like Marco- polo!
