This Month in Hip- Hop…

This month in hip- hop can best be described by the article I attached to this blog post below. Make sure you check it out, and if you’re not following me on Facebook or Twitter, make sure you check that out and give me your input/ comments!
With that being said, I would like to talk about the kind of month February was for hip- hop music and culture. Kanye West drops Yeezy II shoes with nike, Schoolboy Q drops his debut album “Oxymoron” and DMX was set to fight Zimmerman in ‘Celebrity’ boxing match (I would not consider Zimmerman any kind of Celebrity...).

Kanye is still on his godly ego trip and drops the sequel to his Nike kicks ‘Yeezy II’, and they may just be the most quality thing the man has had a hand in creating for quite some time; if you can afford them.  Schoolboy Q drops his debut album and it does very good in its first week! Q is part of TDE, the crew lead by: Kendrick Lamar and the team as a whole is looking to differentiate themselves in the game with an unorthodox flow and a style of beats not really heard before. There are some really good tracks on this cd, so make sure you check it out because the dude got talent! Zimmerman VS DMX was set to be the battle of the century, and it was made quite clear by: DMX that he was holding nothing back; rather, he will do anything to ‘kick the shit out of’ Zimmerman. In the end, the bought was never aloud and we’re force to wonder just how badly Zimmerman would have got stomped (sad face)…

Tracks:
1.      Man of the Year- Schoolboy Q.
2.      Swisha’s and Erb- UGK.
3.      Na Na- Trey Songz.

Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine donate $70 million for Academy.

Jimmy Iovine and Dr Dre donate huge amount to the Universtity of South California for an Academy that will help mold the minds of future stars.  Although this news its a bit dated, I consider a relevant example of business in the world of hip- hop and how to otherwise remain relevant in a genre with aging legends and new rappers with a new sound.
What would you do if you were just absolutely filthy rich? If you were to ask me; I would say, help all my family and friends, by a nice house and car and the rest I would put towards something that can truly help those less fortunate.
When I saw this article I thought the number to be a little modest (winky face), but donating $70 million to University of Southern California in hopes to mold future generations is definitely a start. Leaving a legacy does not only mean the personal accomplishments in your career; instead, it is also leaving and leading future generations to be able to be successful in the industry. I don’t think anyone could ever really duplicate the success that either Dr. Dre or Jimmy Iovine, yet I find certain artist just get rich and leave when they aren’t relevant anymore. It’s a really good thing to recognize how lucky and responsible you are to support the guys starting from the bottom, and in turn the industry that enabled your success grows and evolves.

I thought it fitting to dedicate the next 3 songs of my playlist, to songs that Dr. Dre and Jimmy brought to us. If you haven’t listened to Dr. Dre tracks in a while, it’s cool to go back and appreciate everything he had a hand in.

Tracks:

1.      Forgot about Dre- Dr. Dre ft. Eminem

2.      Still Dre- Dr. Dre ft. Snoop Dogg

3.      Express Yourself- N.W.A.

Leave hip-hop alone.. haha

How’s everyone doing, it’s another week and that means another blog post. This week I decided to try and touch base on some more serious topics that pertain to the music I and you love. This week I want to talk about hip-hop and weather it is the very thing that is ruining the youth of today, and I also wanted to talk about a few songs I will be adding to my blog playlist.

Ever since man-kind has been coming together as a society there has been conflict, and it seems to be one thing that man won’t ever seem to evolve from. The wild thing to me though, is the fact that responsibility is something you don’t have to take when we were raised in societies where the first thing they do is point to something or someone else. To say that hip-hop or rap music, or any music for that matter, is a main factor when some lunatic takes a gun and shoots a mall up or something. It seems to me that instead of looking at things like mental health, family issues, abusive relationships and trying to find out where along the lines this soul got so misguided; it’s easier to say he was listening to Eminem before doing what he did. I am by no means saying that certain music does not make one fantasies about a certain lifestyle, but listening to gangster rap never made me want to cap some fool. This is a complicated topic, so I am now more than ever, looking forward to hearing some feedback from you guys! Here are this week’s songs to be added to the playlist, some music that shows the power this genre truly has.
1.       No more guns allowed- Snoop Lion ft. Drake
2.       Promise land- Damian Marley ft. Nas
3.       That thing- Lauryn Hill

Canadian hip-hop; we can rap to eh!

What’s happening everybody, in this post I really want to shed some light on the Canadian hip-hop industry, talk about some recent news about Lil Wayne apparently hinting at the drop of “Dedication 5” and more songs will be added to my playlist for all you dope track junkies.

The Canadian independent music industry is actually a huge contributor to Canada’s economy and creates a lot of jobs with high potential earnings. However, I feel as though Canadian hip-hop artists are not as relevant as they should be globally. Classified is a perfect example of a pure artist; meaning, he does everything from producing, sampling and rapping himself. With certain exceptions: Drake, Kardinal Offishall; Canadian artist mostly seem to remain relevant only in Canada. Hip-hop is universal, so explore this genre and see what this world has got to offer.

Lil Wayne; in his not so recent song “Bugatti”, made a reference to the drop of “Dedication 5” as his next album. He has made hints and statements before; however, YMCMB’s president, Mack Maine tweeted shortly after the release of this song confirming the hint is true. I realize this news is not exactly new, but given the mans health concerns and the fact that its weezy I'm talking about. I consider the news to be relevant. Keep your eyes and ears open for that people, and I really do wish good health to Lil Wayne.

Songs:

1.      Maritimes- Classified
2.      Born and Raised in the ghetto- Point Blank
3.       u.o.e.n.o remix- Future, Rick Ross, A$AP Rocky, Wiz Khalifa and 2 Chainz
